Although I own a pair of Resound Airs and am extremely happy with them , I took up the opportunity to go free with the National Health Service today and I`m quite impressed .
I was given a old analogue aid in 2001 which as they told me at the time probably wouldn`t be much benefit to me .They were right , it wasn`t much use , that`s why I went private .So when I received a letter in the post from the N.H.S saying they were updating all existing analogue hearing aid wearers , would I like to upgrade , I thought why not .
I must admit I didn`t expect much but they made a appointment for a Sunday morning (yes Sunday) , I was seen 50 minutes earlier than the appointment time .I told the audiologist that I owned a pair of private aids and this did not bother her , she said I was entitled to free hearing care .Normally they only ever give you one hearing aid unless you have a severe hearing loss. I have noise induced deafness in both ears and she said I should have two Oticon Spirit 3 digital BTE`s . Not only that but they also made these open fit rather than ear molds .
The aids are slightly bigger than my Resounds but work just as good . It seems to me that the N.H.S has suddenly jumped into the new millenium , a vast improvement on what we have been used to from the National Health Service .
I now have the option of saving my Resounds for best and let the government pay for my hearing at work , sounds good to me
