i am a relatively new hearing aid wearer and have purchased 2 phonak audeo mini 1X's after taking advice from my audiologist. both ears feel blocked while wearing as if my fingers are stuck in my ears. i am experiencing difficulty picking up conversations despite several adjustments. my audiologist stated that i am the only person in the world to suffer from this as it is impossible to have occlusion with open fit domes. has anyone else experienced a simalar problem?? i would appreciate feedback as im no longer feel confident wearing the aids and my audiologist refuses to provide a refund.

I had a similar feeling with my open fit hearing aids at first .The domes were bigger than they are now , as soon as I changed to a smaller dome the problem stopped .Have a word with your audiologist Smiley

i am seeing my audiologist again in 10 days i will suggest different domes, although he is reluctant to listen to my difficulties and is adamant that it is impossible to have the occlusion. i have lost all confidence in my aids and mostly with my audiologist who assumes he knows what i can and can't hear better than me

Stand your ground , you tell them and make them understand that you are not happy . :(If you are not happy with their response tell them you will take it further , I believe there is a body called the Hearing Aid Council who deal with complaints .....Good luck Smiley

i have taken your advice and looked into this. apparently the hearing aid council has been abolished since july 10th 2010. the new governing body is the health care proffesionals council who only deal with complaints if the practitioner is deemed unfit to practice. i dont know how this provides an appropriate service for ppl purchasing HA's from private audiologists.

Regulation by the Hearing Aid Council was replaced by the Health Professions Council with effect from 01 April 2010.  As you say, lizzy, the HPC is really more focussed on the clinical and professional aspects of your hearing care.   For matters regarding thr aids being 'Unfit For Purpose', if you offer a final opportunity to your Auidiologst and he or she doesn't provide you with an acceptable solution within 14 days and fails to provide you with a refund of all monies paid, you will need to contact the Office of Fair Trading.

You'll probably find that the mere threat of contacting the OFT produces a really swift resolution and/or your money back.

thanx for all the advice, im so glad i found this site. my audiologist has been extremely dismissive of my hearing difficulty which has left my confidence at an all time low as regard to hearing aids and vendors. i have made an appointment with my nhs ENT consultant to get an expert opinion on my problem and will decide what path to follow on his advice.
