As someone who has suffered from tinnitus for years , I was wondering if anyone knew of any cures or ways of reducing the amount of noise in my ears .Ignoring the sound is not always possible , especially during the night .Most of the time it is equivelent to white noise and sometimes I get the odd whoosh which diminishes away to nothing .It doesn`t seem to make a difference wether I wear my hearing aids or not .It is so frustrating at times and the route cause is probably my own fault playing loud music for years .Any ideas anyone............................

I have tinnitus too, high tone, binaural. If you haven't done already, have a look at www.tinnitus.org , the site of Dr Jonathen Hazell and Pawell Jastreboff. There's a lot of good information and advice there, plus some sounds which can be downloaded to help with masking the sound. There's also info about the technique of habituation, whereby breaking the link to the natural conditioned response to tinnitus (usually, distress, frustration, annoyance, etc.) - in other words, the sound is still there, but the conscious brain is either not aware of it, or it is not an annoyance any more.

I have found using sound enrichment overnite works well - either using a CD player or a tinnitus pillow.

it's worth finding out if your local hospital has a hearing therapist. They specialise in tinnitus rehab and will often have equipment that you can try before buying yourself.
