Cheap hearing aids from RBH

March 10, 2009

Top-of-the-range hearing aids will be available at reduced prices at Royal Berkshire Hospital thanks to a deal arranged by the audiology department.

Discreet aids that tuck into the ear will be offered at a fraction of the high street cost with the quality of those offered on the NHS but more aesthetically pleasing.

The department, which is a world-leading team which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, will be offering the In-The-Ear (ITE) aids for between £1,500 and £6,000 for a custom made set, around half of the cost of other retailers.

Audiology head Dr Andy Phillips said: “The NHS hearing aids are the best in the world but they are all behind the ear.

“What patients are more keen on, for cosmetic reasons, is a hearing aid which is less visible and for reasons of cost, the NHS can’t provide this but here in audiology we want to give patients what is appropriate and what they want.”

The affordability of hearing aids today is really something to be happy about most especially among the average people. At least with the cheaper price of this valuable device, more and more people suffering from hearing loss are given the chance to hear again. It used to be that hearing aids were so out of reach because they were too expensive. Cheap, however, does not necessarily mean less effective hearing aids. Perhaps, people who need them can still get value for their money. I mean one can still get a top of the line brand for lower rates and this is really good news.

Hearing aid costs can be intimidating for someone on a limited budget, especially when there is no insurance coverage to absorb any of the cost. By spending some time looking into different options, it is possible to find cheap hearing aids that are excellent quality but still within reach of consumers on a limited income. Top-of-the-range hearing aids will be available at reduced prices at Royal Berkshire Hospital thanks to a deal arranged by the audiology department.
