Everything is going solar these days, even hearing aids. With low-cost and energy efficiency in mind, the Brazilian-based company Solar Ear has created eco-friendly hearing aids powered by energy from the sun.

Solar Ear’s affordable hearing devices use solar-powered batteries, which make them a greener alternative to traditional aids as they cut back on fuel-based power and battery waste. The batteries used in the Solar Ear device also have longer life spans than normal hearing aid batteries—two to three years versus one week

Looking out of my window at all the snow , I don`t think solar powered hearing aids would work here , now if we could get them to work on ice..........

The SolarAid might just change your mind. The SolarAid is a hearing aid
created to make low-cost hearing aids for people in impoverished regions.Godisa Technologies, a Botswana company, designed and built this eco-friendly little device that sells for less than $100.
The SolarAid, combines a small hearing aid and a lightweight solar charger which recharges 2 small batteries. The hearing aid batteries need to be recharged only every 4-6 days. Because the batteries are charged by the power of the sun there is no cost or need for the individual to continuously buy new replacement batteries.

The Solar Ear is a project that makes hearing aid technology affordable to everyone while providing jobs to members of the deaf community. The Solar Ear is a digital hearing aid that can be recharged with solar power. The Solar Ear project creates a sustainable, replicable business venture, providing an affordable (yet priceless) product to those who need it, and improves the lives of both hard of hearing and deaf people.
