The following suggestions will help you care for your hearing aids:

1. Keep hearing aids away from heat and moisture.
2. Replace dead batteries immediately.
3. Clean hearing aids as instructed.
4. Do not use hairspray or other hair care products while wearing hearing aids.
5. Turn off hearing aids when they are not in use.

Hearing aids are grafted with a microphone which help pick up a sound. A digital processor or amplifier makes the sounds strong and loud by amplifying them, which travels through a tube into a fitted the ear-mold in the child's ear.

Hearing aids are expensive and contain some very sensitive circuitry that should be taken great care of. Cleaning your hearing aid on a regular basis helps to ensure that it lasts as long as it possibly can. A dirty hearing aid can also cause ear infections, which is another good reason to clean it properly! The process of cleaning a hearing aid varies from type to type because different types of hearing aids have different structures and different degrees of delicacy. You should consider certain precautions before attempting to clean your hearing aid. Make sure your hands are washed and dried, remember not to get the electronic parts wet, so be careful! It is advised that you use a soft, cotton cloth to clean the entire device, you can use cleaners, but try not to go overboard.

1.Handle your hearing aid with care.
2.Store your hearing aid in a safe place that's dry and cool.
3.Change the batteries often so they don't suddenly run out of power.
4. Switch off your hearing aid when you're not using it. If you don't use it for a long period of time, remove the battery.
5. Battery contacts should be cleaned regularly. Use a cotton swab, taking care not to bend the contacts. Dirty battery contacts can cause improper device function.
6. Remove earwax from your hearing aid to prevent temporary malfunction or permanent damage.
7.Clean your hearing aid using the small brush or the soft cloth that came with it. Never insert tools into the sound outlet. Doing so could damage the receiver. If you can't clean the hearing aid completely, ask your hearing professional for help.
8. Change filters often so they don't collect wax or dirt.
9.Accumulated earwax may prevent sounds from traveling from the hearing aid into the middle ear. Contact your doctor regularly to have your ear canals cleaned. Never remove the earwax from the ear yourself. Doing so could damage your ear.

Great tips, they are extremely expensive to purchase so anything that can prevent them going faulty is good!

I agree, hearing aids are too expensive not to take care of.

Does anyone know if you can buy hearing aid insurance?

Barry Fenton Insurance Brokers used to offer a scheme, but most people add their hearing aids to their All Risks section of their household insurance - just like cameras, jewellry, etc.   It was and is MUCH cheaper to do it that way.  The scheme folded due to lack to take up.

Proper care and cleaning of your hearing aid will help keep your aid functioning properly and may prevent the need for repeated repairs. Really very useful and great tips for me. Great site. Interesting tips and topic. Thanks for sharing..
