Hi everyone. Hi Ray.

I work for a hearing aid company and we have quite and entertaining section here about the history of hearing aids (my favourite is the "beard collector") http://www.ascenthearing.co.uk/hearing_aids/hearing_aid_history/index.html, and I am privvy to the new technologies that are in development. All I can say is "wow". This new stuff will blow your minds. Watch this space. Just as a thought. We will be conducting a survey soon to see what new developments hearing aid users would like to see in the future. If you let me know I will pass your thoughts on personally to some of my contacts.

Thanks

Hi. As part of your shopping around I would advise you to consider very carefully the audiologist you choose. With many hearing aids you are paying for the follow up rehabilitation services (unless you are buying cheapo ones online).

Because hearing aids don't work like lenses do for eyes, you must be advised and counselled through the experience. This will involve several visits. Your brain needs time to relearn. It needs this time because you will have spent years with your brain making a good job of papering over the cracks. When you first start using hearing aids it can be a little like learning to read all over again. A good audiologist will be able to listen and advise as well as making the necessary fine adjustments. This will be an ongoing relationship so you need to be happy that your audiologist will both recommend the coreect technology as well as hold your hand - preferably for the rest of your life.

I hope that helps.

Hearing aids are very different and their price also differ. There are many manufacturing companies and you can find on their sites different offerings, and user's opinions as well. But you always have to consult with a specialist http://hearing-aids.pissedconsumer.com/ . After 3 years of work in a call center I had some problems and had to use a hearing aid. I could find very good one, suitable for me. My advice is to read about it and get to know every detail before buying.

The fact that most of the people are very reckless when it comes to there hearing. They are exposed from a noisy place, high volume of playing their mp3 and among others. They did not know that the treatment behind that is really expensive.

Hi Everyone,
I had drop attacks with menieres around 20 years ago and so had a vestibular neurectomy
(brain op) and have around 25% hearing in my left ear.
6 years ago Menieres started in my right ear and lost around 20%
of my hearing. I tried the n.h.s digital behind ears aids but not very good so I invested in a Phonak Savia just for my right ear,and wear it all the time as it was such an improvement.
Last year diagnosed with sleep apnea so now wear a mask of a night and after 3 months started having noises in my right ear when I woke.
This would go by mid day. I suspect it was to do with pressures from the machine around my nose etc, but only a guess ?
6 months ago hearing remained at the same level but sounds become distorted like car exhaust was blowing everything very bassy and speech harder to recognize.
I have been to another hospital that have one of the top hearing departments and they are making an aids for both ears.

Questions:-
Is this common to have distorted sounds like this?. If so can any aids help?
will the nhs behind the ear help or should I be looking for more specialized aids? I visit peoples home and talk to them but have stopped because it has become too difficult hearing them speak.Would something like the phonak smartlink help my situation?

Any help would be really appreciated

Thanks Joe

My wife has just started wearing a siemens reflex m model xv66931 after years of having various gromits fitted. My wife's confidence is low at present and i wondered if anyone could help? she really enjoys music but cannot find any headphones that works with the hearing aid. Can anyone recommend headphones or do we have to look at purchasing a different type of hearing aid?

It`s a strange sensation when you get hearing aids for the first time or indeed , when you switch from analogue to digital , you start to hear things that you forgot existed .
With me it was women in high heels (no this isn`t a pervy thing) the click clack of the heels tppk some ignoring at first as it was just so clear .The birds singing was nice to hear again , on a down side I can hear the wife a lot clearer also .
Good luck to you my friend with your new aids Wink
