Hi,
Im Rebecca. Im 17 years old. Im new here.
I had glue ear at least 10 times when i was younger and had grommets for at least the majority of those 10 times. but i didnt have any hearing tests done afterwards. that wot makes me think i probably had it from birth. Is it most likely i had it from birth? Should i of got help a lot earlier?
I first noticed something was wrong a couple of months back, when i noticed i couldnt hear as well as i could of. So last month i phoned up the docotrs surgery asking to book a doctors appiontment about my hearing. The person on the other side said i need to book a hearing test with one of the nurses, so i booked just that So last month, i had a short hearing test at the doctors surgery with one of the nurses there. I had to sit in a chair facing a wall with headphones on, she had this machine where she would twist a knob or something to play a sound. She told me to raise me and and say yes if i could hear the beep or wotever noise it was making and say no if i couldnt. I couldnt hear quite a few Sad So i failed that hearing test and was told to make an appiotment with the doctor. I made an appiotment with the doctor. I went to the appiontment, the doctor looked in my ears and asked me some questions about my background and stuff. Then the doctor told me i had a hearing loss/impairment and reffered me to make an appiontment with an audiologist. When the doctor told me i had a hearing loss, i sunk inside Sad
A few questions, what is an audiologist? what do they do? what can i expect at the first appiontment?
thank u
i booked my first audiologist appiontment, yesterday. For 2 weeks yesterday. I will be goin to the hospital for my audiologist appiontments. I have booked it for 3pm. I'm going to have to be there 30 mins earlier to prepare myself for it.
Im scared and nervous about going. But i know its the right thing to do for myself.
I hope my hearing isnt as bad as i think. I fear that its going to be bad news.
Right now im incredibley nervous cz i know i dont want to go.

I took an online hearing test, online. And this is wot i got:

Hz L(dB) R(dB)
20 n/a n/a
40 n/a n/a

I'm pleased to meet you

I'm new as well. It's good you're taking care of your hearing loss at an early age. Research indicates the longer you wait the less your ability to understand will be correctible
