My name is David Harrison. For some time I have been considering the need for a hearing aid. I have had a few tests, but this week I had a test from an audiologist/salesman who actually showed me aids to test. I do not like neing pushed to buy, but I did pay a deposit for two hearing aids with tubes into the ears. I have been worrying since that I have over spent in my circumstances. The price was £2,400 for two aids, but I have no written to cancel the order. I felt I had been pushed into buying too quickyly. The salesman said that people not prepared to pay a deposit, normally do not go ahead with the order.
I have a hearing loss, mainly in my left ear and also suffer from tinitus. In large meetings I do find it difficult to make out what everybody is saying. I liked the hearing aids, and was surprised that they seemed to clear the tinitus.
Should I try the NHS or go ahead with a private firm. I note the Specsavers offer of aid that could be used just when the circumstances needed it, such as meetings and cinema.
Am I alone in feeling pushed into an expensive purchase.

Hi David

I'm sorry to hear that you feel that you were pushed into purchasing hearing aids by the Hearing aid audiologist that saw you. We at UK hearing aid forums recommend always obtaining a second opinion before making a decision.

As you have such concerns I would recommend you contact company that have sold you the aid and raise your concerns. Most companies will allow you to cancel without being penalised financially. If someone has seen you at your home you also have additional rights of protection. I would not make a hasty decision ...first talk to the company involved.

The NHS will supply a free hearing aid normally behind the ear. The waiting lists vary and can be quite lenghty in certain parts of the UK.
